Spc. Fields from Knightsville Indiana spoke to his mother on the phone last monday morning, May 21st. He was serving the Army National Guard, 81st Troop Command, as part of Task Force Guardian, a multiunit military police force. He was in Qal-ah-ye Mirza Jal, Afghanistan, going out on patrol later that day. During patrol, he was fatally injured by a rocket propelled grenade.

Our hearts go out to the loved ones of this young man. He was 27 years old. According to an article in Indystar, Spc. Fields was a fisherman as well as an innovative self-taught mechanic. He loved working on his classic cars-- a 1969 Mustang and a 1973 Plymouth Challenger.

Let us not forget the price of Freedom on memorial day and through the year.
