Barney - 11-12

If you have visited the American Treasure Tour, you know how challenging it can be to do justice to it through description.  It kind of has to be seen to be believed, and even then it's sometimes difficult to believe.  Naturally, we here at the blog mean that in the best way possible.  We love it for its sense of history, music, art, pop culture, and for so many other reasons.  One subject we really have not addressed in the blog to date is the extensive collection of stuffed animals that are all over the Toy Box - in cars, hanging on the walls and ceilings, tucked inside artifacts, and wherever else we can think to put them.  So today, we are going to give you our first installment of "Stuffed Animals at the ATT!"  (NOTE: The name of this installment will hopefully change to something more catchy in the future.)

Barney is one of the many characters whose friendly smiles help anyone who visit us feel at home.  The first episode of the live-action children's program Barney & Friends, targeted at kids between the ages of 2 and 6, aired in 1992.  For seventeen years, Barney, Baby Bop, B.J., and Riff taught children life lessons using catchy songs and guest appearances. The show was recorded in Texas and broadcast across the country, while movies and albums were released to complement the show and help guide the nation's toddlers on a direction towards sharing and caring.

BIRTHS:

Grace Kelly.jpg

On this date in 1929, the prominent Philadelphia Kelly family introduced to the world baby Grace.  Grace would grow up to become one of Hollywood's most glamorous actresses, and a favorite for director Alfred Hitchcock.  She starred in some of his finest films, including Rear Window, To Catch a Thief, and Dial M for Murder.   She also won an Oscar for her performance in The Country Girl.  She retired from film to marry Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956, officially becoming part of royalty.

Okay, you might give the American Treasure Tour blog a bit of a hard time over our next birthday celebrator because he was born in Canada, but how can we not honor the great musician Neil Young.  Born in 1945, he has evolved into an important singer-songwriter, and a member of such bands as Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.  Happy birthday, Neil!
