Happy Birthday to Burt Lancaster! Born Burton Stephen Lancaster 101 years ago today, he was a tough kid raised in Manhattan who joined the circus as an acrobat. Lancaster turned to acting after an injury forced him from the circus. After serving in the Army, he turned to acting and won praise for his first film The Killers, in which he starred with Ava Gardner. Lancaster went on to appear in such notable films as  Come Back, Little Sheba, From Here to Eternity, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Sweet Smell of Success, Separate Tables, The Unforgiven, Elmer Gantry, Judgment at Nuremberg, Birdman of Alcatraz, and Atlantic City
