Faithful - Monday, May 4, 2015

The American Treasure Tour blog is happy to welcome you to a brand new week!  And how better to do that than to continue our exploration of Toy Box movie posters?  Today, we are going to explore what is arguably the most important film of the decade of the 1990's - the 1996 comedy Faithful.  It was directed by Pail Mazursky, written by and starring Chazz Palminteri, along with Cher and Ryan O'Neal.

When we call this "the most important film..." what we mean to say is that it is all but forgotten today.  Many people who had the opportunity to see it left the theater with less than stellar reviews, unfortunately.  But it sounds great on paper.  A man hires a hitman to 'take care of' his wife, but things get complicated when said hitman becomes smitten with his target.  The film proved to be Cher's least popular of the nineties.  Hats off to everyone for trying!
QUESTION:  What famous actor served behind the scenes on Faithful, as its producer?
A)  Chaz Palminteri
B)  Ryan O'Neal
C)  Robert DeNiro
D)  Robert Redford

OLLIE NORTH GOES TO JAIL.  If there is one thing Americans love about their political landscape it's a good scandal.  The second term of beloved president Ronald Reagan was dominated by a juicy one known to history as the Iran-Contra Affair.  It's a bit of a complicated one to explain, let's just say it involved hostages, weapons, money and dubious decisions (both morally and legally).  Anyway, today is the anniversary of the court ruling against one of the key proponents of Iron-Contra - Ollie North.  In 1989, he was charged with three crimes and acquitted of nine others in the scandal.  But don't worry, he was later acquitted of those three.  All is good.

HAIL THE IMMIGRANT!  America is a nation of immigrants.  Even when those immigrants come to the States from Toronto.  Today, we celebrate the birth of Will Arnett, comedian and actor. He is turning 45 today, with an impressive track record behind him.  His star rose high with the popular cult television show Arrested Development, and has since appeared in a number of different movies, including Hot Rod, Let's Go to Prison, and the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  Happy birthday to you!
